Poem About Smell of Manure

When Spring Visits

Winter has placed a tan tarp

on the cornfield, and the tractor's tires

stamp shapes into the damp ground.

The spreader, row by row

like incense, lays the sweet smell

horse manure until it covers the field

and comes inside, politely,

through the screen door.
