Peer Review for Jess H - "The Dance"

Peer Review for Jess H – “The Dance”
I’m guessing that the thesis to her essay is, ““The Dance”, is written by Tony Arata and performed by Garth Brooks, together they create a strong argument for a way to view life.” I think her thesis is somewhat clear and understanding, however I think she should add a little more onto it. Her thesis deals with rhetoric as they are persuading that this is the way to view life. She does identify the argument of the text and the video. The argument to her essay is “The argument is to enjoy your life and not to worry about the pain that may be caused in the end.”

The writer does provide specific support and examples from the text and video for her essay.
In text the writer uses the following examples:
*She uses the chorus, “I’m glad I didn’t know the way it all would end, the way it all would go. Our lives, are better left to chance, I could have missed the pain, but I’da had to miss, the dance.” *She also uses “Wasn't I a king? But if I'd only known, how the king would fall. Hey who's to say, you know I might have changed it all.”
* The last example she uses is “For a moment all the world was right.”
From the video she uses the following examples:
*This example is an opening message from Garth Brooks saying what the song is about, “is about life, or the loss of those that have given the ultimate sacrifice for a dream that they believed in.”
*This example is what Garth Brooks states at the end of t he song in the video, “If for some reason I was to leave this world unexpectedly I hope they play “The Dance” for me. Yea, I could have missed the pain but I'da had to miss the the dance and I wouldn't miss this for the world.”
The writer did cover a good bit of the song. If the writer would use any more examples she should probably use more from the first verse as well as this is where she should probably be more descriptive.

The writer does provide analysis for her examples that she used. As well as these examples do help and go along with the thesis well. I think the writer did a good job analyzing, however, I think she should further analyzing the first verse some more. Maybe the writer could use the last two lines where it says, “How could I have known / that you’d ever say goodbye?” With these two lines she could say that not knowing what’s going to happen is part of life, because if we did know what was going to lay ahead then a lot of obstacles probably wouldn’t happen in our lives and then our lives would be boring. For the video I think the writer did good but maybe she could further analysis by going along the lines as to whether or not the video visuals matches the text of the song.

The part that sticks with me the most is the chorus when Garth Brooks says, “And now / I’m glad I didn’t know / The way it all would end / the way it all would go / Our lives, / Are better left to chance / I could have missed the pain, / But I’da had to miss the dance.” I think this part really sticks to me the most because he doesn’t regret what happened, he actually is glad it did and that he took the chance to do this because of all the good things he experienced along the way.
