Rhetorical Analysis

Cowgirls Don’t Cry
Cowgirls don’t cry is a song with a lot of passion and meaning behind it. I can relate to this song really well. I feel that this song is presented in a very good way, so that the listener can really get the true meaning for the song. The fact that the advise is coming from the father to the little girl makes the song seem much more real then if it was anyone else that the advise was coming from. After listening to the song it makes me definitely want to be stronger and to not let myself fall.
Its talks about how her dad bought her a pony and taught her how to ride, and even though it was hard and she kept falling off that in the end it would be ok. That she would just have to keep pushing herself and not to get frustrated and give up.
In the course it says “lesions of life are going to show you in time” meaning that you might not understand everything now but later in time it will come and you can better understand everything. Then it goes on to say that life is not all nice and neat it says that its going to get dirty and it might hurt but if you fall you have to be strong and get back on the horse.
In the next verse it says that she got married, but she was never really happy. She wanted kids and he didn’t. It goes back to what her father taught her that she just has to be strong and not show her emotions. Then she gets a call saying that her dad way dyeing and that she needed to come home.
In the last verse of the song they switch it up a bit and it says that her dads lasts word where that you might not fully understand every thing now but later in life you will be able to appreciate the hard timed you are going though now. And that life is to short and that you have to make the best of things as they are now. He says that if you do stand tall and keep on riding then it will only make you stronger for when you have to be strong.
In this song they also use pathos, ethos and logos. They use pathos when they are talking about her falling down but then getting right back up and trying it again. This makes me feel for the little girl who just wants to make her father proud. I feel like by using this example it can really pull the reader or listener in to get the sympathy at the end for when the father dies. In the song they also use ethos. Ethos is used because the lesion in the song is coming from the father, and when I think of a father I think of someone who a child is always going to look up to, to provide them with some good advise. Logos is used when they talk about the fact that if you stay strong then you can get through anything. The tone also very important in this song when it comes to bringing the message across. They message is sort of a serious message so they have to use a serious tone in which they do to fully bring the song to life, and to get there point across.
After watching the songs music video I feel as if it song really comes alive in a whole other sense. The video definitely uses pathos. It really makes you feel for what the actor are going though. It makes the argument of the song so much more understood. The visual also plays a huge part in the way you feel. The director keeps showing the image of the little girl just riding in circles with her dad standing there looking so proud of her, and I feel like that really adds to the message that the songs gives. The very last scene in the video where the mother is then teaching her daughter to ride and teaching her the same lesion that her father daughter her was the higher party of the video for me because it showed how important of a lesion it was and that that lesion should be shown to the world.
